The Regional Animal Protection Society (RAPS) is introducing an initiative designed to assist families with companion pets during the COVID-19 crisis.

RAPS is unveiling gift cards worth up to 50 per cent over face value.

The not-for-profit, Richmond-owned veterinary centre said the value-added gift card program is part of a comprehensive series of initiatives aimed at assisting families during the economic and social disruption associated with the pandemic.

“The gift cards cost $100, but have a value up to $150,” explained Eyal Lichtmann, CEO of RAPS, which operates the RAPS Animal Hospital.

The $100 card comes with a $20 bonus, plus recipients are enrolled in RAPS Animal Hospital’s VIP program, which includes 25 per cent off almost all in-hospital services.

“For 25 years, RAPS has been helping animals and their people,” Lichtmann said. “Since opening the RAPS Animal Hospital just over two years ago, we have provided more than $1.2 million in partially or fully subsidized care to animals in households with low incomes, or facing other challenges. We expect that number to reach $2 million in subsidized assistance this year.

Lichtmann said RAPS is honoured to be able to step up during this time.

At this time, RAPS is also offering a no-interest wellness payment plan for veterinary care as well as home delivery of pet foods and supplies.

The hospital has also implemented strict protocols to allow the continued delivery of services.
